Thyroid cancer is most common endocrine malignancy
Prevalence is 3.7/100000
Women are more affected then men (3:1)
Most common age group is 50 years
90% presents as solitary thyroid nodule
5 % of all solitary thyroid nodules are malignant.
Well differentiated thyroid malignancy are common and have excellent
prognosis & survival around 90 % Over 10 years.
FNAC which is used to confirm diagnosis has 70 to 90% sensitivity &
cannot differentiate between certain benign and malignant disease
where diagnostic lobectomy becomes necessary.
Early sign include swelling in neck
Change of voice,difficulty in swallowing or
Breathlessness are features of advance disease.
Surgery remains the mainstay of treatment.
Early diagnosis and prompt treatment are key to good survival for these curable diseases
